The list that is on Wikipedia that demonstrates the

fact of how far the animals are to Extinction.

1 - Extinct
2 - Extinct in the Wild
3 - Critically Endangered
4 - Endangered
5 - Vunerable
6 - Conservation Dependent
7 - Near Threatened
8 - Least Concern

Hope that helps understand all animals that u c on Wikipedia with these 8 ratings, no 1 is the highest and no 8 is the lowest, for example, the Caspian Tiger is a no 1 and the Leopard is the no 8 or in other words the Caspian Tiger is extinct and the Leopard has the least concern symbol.

Want to know my favourite fish???

I can put it up now. Well here it is, a picture of it.

By the photo I found can u guess its name?? If u cant look near its mouth, u can see theres a organ possibly used for finding its food, by the look of the organ it looks like a trunk of a elephant. If u guessed corectly it is the Elephant Fish named because of that organ I am talking about. I found a good picture of one, how about next year I can put up my favourite sharks, mammals, fish, reptiles, birds and insects. My second favourite fish is a type of sunfish, the Oblong Sunfish. The Oblong Sunfish is sacred when it comes to Honolulu, they respect it as the fish god ansestor of the mackerels and bonitos and by no account must it be molested. The place it is more common where it lives but definatly not rare is the place we call Aotearoa or New Zealand. The New Zealand kind of Elephant fish is common throughout the South Islands but on rare occasions does it come up down below Hawkes Bay or in Hawkes Bay.

Finaly some translations

Guess what I have found, 'Te Pouakai' or 'Pouakai' translated into English means 'Eagle'. I translated the other Maori name 'Te Hokioi' or 'Hokioi' and I couldnt find any translation from where I translated. Another few translations are 'Kaka' translated means 'Parrot', 'Kakapo' translated means 'Night Parrot', 'Ruru' translated means 'Big Eyes' and of course 'Tuatara' translated means 'Spines on back'.

Bad News for Humpback Whale Fans

China is planning 2 go on a hunt to kill 50 of the worlds most rarest whale (the Humpback Whale) and it ends in April. NZ Greenpeace and another company who like endangered animals are planning 2 do all that they can 2 stop this killing catastrophe. In my point of veiw, China has been the worst country I have ever seen 2 disregard animals, one of the main animals that gets killed everyday is my favourite big cat, believe it or not this big cat is called the tiger.

As I mentioned earlier...

about the Haast Eagle being more famous than this bird would ya believe it is also an extinct bird, shall I say its name again if u dont know what I mean, I shall, this birds name is the Adzebill. Here is a picture of it for those who dont know what it looks like.

I dunno what its Maori names are but its probably named the Adzebill because of its big bill. I shall look up its Maori names and tell u later cause I believe that all NZ birds have Maori names but believe it or not, some do. It was killed by Polinesians who found this bird quite delicious.

Birds with 2 maori names

Maori has been a important factor in my lifestyle, the Karearea has 2 maori names and thanks to the internet I have found another one with 2 Maori names, the Haast Eagle. After some searching on pics of Moa I have found a picture of two being chased by a Haast Eagle, but have also found its other maori name. Its Maori names are 'Te Pouakai' and of course the most recent one which I have found 'Te Hokioi'. Good on ya for this website for detailing this massive but more famous than the Adzebill. U have given me great hope for finding more information about this massive bird which I am doing research on for one of my old teachers at Salisbury School. Here is this website which I am talking about down below.

NZ Falcon - Lesser number populations than the Kiwi B

Wow, the next post has finaly come at last. This has the pics and the stats for how much population are kiwis and how much of the population are New Zealand Falcons. As earlier I have described about how and why the New Zealand Falcon are becoming extinct, shooting is the main threat, also there is the destruction of habitat for this bird that we need to consider.

No 1 - Brilliant shot of the Karearea or New Zealand Falcon showing us what it looks like under the wings (full colour).

No 2 - A cool picture of a New Zealand Falcon or Karearea head (full colour).

No 3 - A picture of a mother New Zealand Falcon or Karearea feeding her chicks (full colour).

No 4 - A picture of a New Zealand Falcon or Karearea in its natural habitat sitting on a top of a tree (full colour).

No 5 - A brilliant scetch of a New Zealand Falcon or Karearea head (black and white colour).

As a bonus for reading both these blogs here is a special treat just 4 u, if u r a big fan of the New Zealand Falcons or Kareareas I have got the treat for u, a New Zealand Falcon or Karearea background showing 9 different heads of New Zealand Falcon or Karearea and I am totally not joking about this treat, its in full colour and it would suit any computer background, big or small.

NZ Falcon - Lesser number populations than the Kiwi A

I have not talked much about this bird but I feel that I have a right 2 speak out for it since it is one of Aotearoas Taongas (New Zealands Treasures in Maori). People shoot this bird but I feel that we dont need 2 shoot it because it is on the endangered list, it deserves 2 be called a New Zealand Treasure because it only is found in Aotearoa (New Zealand in Maori) and if we dont save it, it could be come extinct for all eternity.

Here is a 5 websites about the New Zealand Falcon :

1 - This website has got a good picture of one of these birds and u can hear their mating call, I give it a 10/10 for good research on this bird and since it is a NZ taonga it deserves a good picture for people 2 c it in its full glory ~ http://www.wingspan.co.nz/falcon_facts.html

2 - Wikipedia have a whole lot of stuff about animals, plants and people as well as movies so I picked this one since I am a big fan of Wikipedia, good on ya guys for putting this website on Google.co.nz, u deserve it. Good pics of it as well, if u were wondering Karearea in Maori means New Zealand Falcon ~ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karearea

3 - What a good website, 10/10 for preformance and gratitude towards all hawks and falcons, they have done a good job with this profile on the Karearea or New Zealand Falcon, good on ya guys for making this website a big success with me since I am promoting the New Zealand Falcon ~ http://www.hawk-conservancy.org/priors/nzfalcon.shtml

4 - I typed in 'Karearea or New Zealand Falcon' at Google.co.nz and found this website, I am a big fan of it and I believe that this bird should be honoured in all its glory. Here is this website. This website features many New Zealand birds, both extinct and alive, for example, the Huia. ~ http://www.nzbirds.com/birds/falcon.html

5 - Took a look at this website and was amazed at what I found, good pics, got a link 2 the bird it is much more mistaken 4, the Swamp Harrier. Such a great picture of the Karearea as well ~ http://www.beautyofbirds.com/newzealandfalcons.html

More comming soon in the Next Post titled "NZ Falcon - Lesser number populations than the Kiwi B".

The Hard Truth - Pollution Kills

I guess its been around the world by now but the sad fact of nature is that pollution kills. Its recent victim has been the Chinese River Dolphin or the Baiji. U were famous in our eyes but now u are gone. As soon as I got out of where I was and before hopping into bed I had a moment silence 4 u. Help save these precious dolphins, river dolphins and freshwater dolphins and all the animals in the world because they need ur help. Extinction is a sad word 2 say caus u cant bring them back but the good news is we can learn from this mistake cant we. Here is a picture of the dolphin that was the recent victim of polution.

This picture has not been edited, just recently got it off from Google. The last chance 4 it has gone but from that mistake we can learn to protect the rest of the animals in the wild facing extinction.

A Wicked Website by a Christian Forums Member.

Any of u guys who look at this website interested in Guinea Pigs?? Well have I got the site 4 u, no grumbling, I promise k. Here is the website adress.

Shark finning... What is the point of it???

I went to Auzzie and got myself a free mag. Good mag 2, its called the Paws and Claws mag and its only from good petshops on the Gold Coast of Australia. It was a good mag but one of the articles made me understand the horrible plight of Shark Fin Soup and the animals that happened with it. Sharks are the top ace predator but in some parts of Australia and all of Asia there have been people culling sharks and killing them by chopping off their fins and leaving them for dead in the sea, by letting them bleed to death or maybe by sharks coming up and doing what they do best, eating injured sharks. Thank goodness they dont serve Sharkfin Soup in New Zealand or America. What have sharks done to deserve this???? Some sharks hurt people but most havnt, for example the Carpet Shark. U can help 2 by not buying shark products and not eating Sharkfin Soup. There are other issues that I will discuss with u later such as the plight of the Turtles k because Sharks arnt the only ones who r being harmed by the plight of us humans.

Not another report of Animal Cruelty again ...

This one I found on the same night but this one is not by Skunkfeather but by a entirely different person. For starters what is a pet food company thinking about putting pain killers in pet food for instance. I dunno but I am so glad this doesnt happen in New Zealand. Here is this website.

http://www.christianforums.com/t5497438-texas-lab-finds-pain-medicine-in-pet-food.html

Hope u dont enjoy reading this but get the importance of checking on your pet food ingredients list to see what ingredients are in the pet food instead of buying it and feeding it to your pet.

Not another report of Animal Cruelty

One of my good friends Skunkfeather from Christian Forums.com has found another report of animal cruelty. This one is more serious than the first count of animal cruelty. This one has been chucked out of a car and has a broken rear leg. Good on ya Skunkfeather if u r reading this report of Animal Cruelty.

http://www.christianforums.com/t5486922-another-kitten-this-one-thrown-from-a-car.html

Hope u look at this website and realise what a cruel world it is out there for animals of all sorts.

Good news 4 fish luvers

Guys, WWF has done a great thing. Its about a fish called the Humpheaded Wrasse. They have saved more than 1,000 of these creatures from poachers. Here is the website u might wanna look at about this cool animal. Humpheaded Wrasse Well click on the word HUMPHEADED WRASSE underlined and it will take you to a website and that website has more about the Humpheaded Wrase that I could never tell u because I only figured about this fish today. Well i gotta go now. I will look foward to your compliments from WWF if u read both articles from 2 of my blogs, the recent 1 from the big cat blog and this article that I am typing, maybe even the one below this article, u neva know.

WWF Praise from me.

I have a whole lot of praise to give to WWF and if u read on you will find out what and why I am giving this praise about, animal fans who visit this blog. WWF good on you if your reading this 4 2 things. The first is speaking to China and saying hey, we need to make a petition to show you guys how much people luv the tiger and would want to protect it, u can read it in the Big Cats Blog. The 2nd is saving the Humpheaded Wrasse (which is a type of fish) from poachers. I neva knew about the Humpheaded Wrasse but now I do thanks to your cool article that u published in the WWF E-Newsletter u sent me. The picture up the top if u r wondering is a diver with a Humpheaded Wrasse, the fish I am going to talk about.

A note from Hazel

I have always checked my blogs ever since I made them. My Mum made the first one which was a bit unfortunate I have to say but it was a big suprise with me. I am a bit disapointed though however that only 1 person has commented on one of my 3 blogs. That was quite a long time ago however. If u feel that my blogs are not comprimising with ur standards plz put a comment in the box ok. Well thats all I have to say for now.

Paradise Shellduck Feathers

Today my Mum, Alice and Melee went for a walk. I definatly didnt get to go for the walk but I wished I could but I had to do jobs around the house at that time. They came back with 3 feathers and Alice of course said she saw 3 of these birds, Paradise Shellduck. There were 2 males but 1 female. My guess is one of the males is a fledgling of the parent Paradise Shellducks flying in the sky with its mother and its father. The female Paradise Shellduck has a white head while the male has a black head. Its a real pitty it is not in the top 22 but by some time I am sure it is to be the top 10 of NZ animals. Just to keep u updated on them, a time I last saw them or one of them was when I was riding down the 2nd paddock. I went home and got binoculars to observe this one. It was the female / mother paradise Shellduck. She is so beautifull at a distance. If I could take a picture of her then I would have but I didnt. I wanted to observe her in the best possible way I could, that was not disturbing her by flash photography but by observing her through binoculars. Paradise Shellducks are only found in New Zealand, mainly the South Island. If u get a chance and see one take a good look at the female and u can see how far she is from gorgeous than the domestic cat. She is a real beautifull sight to see if u see one in the wild or stuffed, particulary not stuffed but alive in her own habitat. Here are 3 pictures, the first is of a Paradise Shellduck female in her real beauty, the 2nd is of the Paradise Shellduck chick being held by human hands and the 3rd is of a male Paradise Shellduck visiting the beach. Hope u like the three photos ok. I hand picked them especially just 4 u ok if u want to know.

Arthur William Badden Powells photo.

Here is the photo as I have promised. I hope u luv it. I have also got a website here which would lead u to discover more about this man than I have ever learned about him. Some of the information or all of the information that I have learned about him is in here so here is the website which I have promised u ok. I am so sorry that I cant make it bigger for u.
Click on the link below this sentence to take u to this website ok.

Woopsies ...

I cant find a picture of the book but I can find a picture of him if anyone wants to have a look at it. It is to be posted on 'a word from hazel' Hazels 1st blog and the other one 4 animal luvers around the globe which is Hazels 2nd blog.

No 4 of Top 21 NZ Animals - The Tuatara

Have any of u guys heard of this animal???? Well I have and its amazing but its not always what it seems with its skin. I have heard its heart beat on Studio 2 and it really sounds nothing like the human heartbeat. I have not finnished with this animal yet. It is part of the ancient group of reptiles, the relatives of this reptile died 60 million years ago. Thats just to turn the heat up on this animal. It is nothing like the lizard because it has a third eye which is used in the baby tuatara to suck up UV rays to make it healthy when it is an adult for years to come. If it didnt have a third eye it would be a unhealthy tuatara when it is an adult and by my guess every year when it grows it would get sicker and sicker by the minute. Its so lucky to have a third eye by my case. Here is a picture of this cool as lizard.

I hope u like the photo of it. In this photo it is resting on a stone. Tuataras are definatly and most postively becoming extinct every day. I am so glad that we have people who are willing their lives to help save this animal from extinction ... thats the same with other animals around the globe who are at the same position as the tuatara, one example 4 this is the Kea and the South Island Kaka. Well thats all I have to say about this active lizard. Any questions put them in comments and I will answer them just as quickly as I read them ok.

Haast Eagle Pictures.

Here are 2 pictures of the Haast Eagle. Hope u luv them. The first one is of a Haast Eagle scaring and chasing away moa and the second one is of the Haast Eagle wingspan compared to the biggest eagle alive today and of course one of its relatives. That would give u a better size comparison instead of explaining the Haast Eagle size to u.

Arthur William Badden Powel - A tribute to him

Have any of you heard of the guy by the name of Arthur William Badden Powell?? Well I have and he is a wonder to my eyes. He died at the age of 86 or 85 (dunno when his birthday was) on the 1st of July in the year 1987. If he was alive today he would be 106 or 105. Will post the final details on this as soon as I know when his birthdate was ok. He is the founder of Scouts and his wife of course is the founder of Girl Guides. He was also a conology person **conology is a study of sea shells**. He named more than 1,000 different species of molusc, sub species or species. He was a marvelous person when he lived. If any of u want to know more about NZ animals that I have not told u about get out a book called Powells Native Animals of New Zealand the 4th edition or the book called Native Animals of New Zealand - edition 3. It is a must read for all ppl out there who want to learn more about New Zealands native animals and fauna as well. Well thats all I have to say about this guy. When I reccomend this book I definatly recomend it and that is my final word. If u have any friends who would luv to learn stuff about NZ animals when they are in a different country or in New Zealand this is the book for them. Wish I could have a picture of the book but I will soon do it on another part of this blog with the pics soon OK.

No 10 of my top 21 of Extinct Animals

I really just had to put this bird up since it is my favourite extinct bird of all time (exceptions to the Huia and all extinct birds in New Zealand though). It is extinct and has a good history in New Zealand. It describes characters of the NZ fauna. Home of the birds. It used to eat moas, pitty I didnt put that bird on my list. It has a good history in the South Island. In a part of the Ice Age it was found in the South Island and a part of the North Island but after the Ice Age went the South Island population was still there but there was no birds in the North Island of New Zealand. It had maori names and one of them was pauakai. It is the biggest eagle that history has shown in every time of countless historic records. Its wingspan was 3 metres wide. Hows that for a gigantic eagle. There is one on the front of this blog as well as a picture of a pair of Huia. Up at this blog right now under the heading of **Sunday the 24th of Febuary 2007** is a couple of photos of this giant but amazing bird that is my favourite bird of all time ... not including the South Island Kaka, the South Island Kokako or the Paradise Shellduck. These photos are of another 1 chasing and scaring moa and the second one is of a size comparison of the Haast Eagle, the largest eagle alive and one of its relatives.

No 21 of Top 21 Animals - Harrier Hawk

The reason why I wanted to add this one onto the list is family history. My poppa helped this bird. He used to become a doc member in NZ but now he doesn't work for that kind of stuff, what he did to help this bird was make it not become extinct by protecting it. This bird loves to eat dead animals run over by cars, trucks or vans. U can find in New Zealand or Australia. This birds name is the Harrier Hawk. We have a lot of them around where my family lives. Here is a photo of one.

When ever we see them flying around the car driving to a place in the South Island near were we live we call it Harry. Its the nickname for the Harrier Hawk that we have named. We have another one by the name of Bella and of course Bella is a Bellbird just like Harry is a Harrier Hawk.
